"This opportunity was by far the most influential of all my previous internships/jobs...Being a part of this team inspired me and gave me confidence in my ability to connect to people of all ages and my ability to make others feel better just by being supportive. "
"In working, with the JDPP’s Children of the Incarcerated Project, my peers and I shared an experience that not only personally impacted us, but impacted our work. By work, I am referring to our commitment to community engagement that goes beyond our different disciplines: International Studies, Neuroscience, Human Rights, or Educational Studies."
Internships at the Judy Dworin Performance Project are available in 3 different areas. Internships are unpaid and can last as long as the
intern is available. Hours are negotiable depending on which program the intern chooses. If you are interested in an internship, please
submit a resume to Managing Director, Carla Iovinella Corcoran. Depending on the type of internship you apply for, the initial contact with
Carla will be followed by an on-site interview at the office, rehearsal or residency sites.
The Administrative Internship at the JDPP entails working primarily in the main office at City Arts on Pearl (233 Pearl St.) under the
supervision of the Managing Director. Daily tasks may include assisting with information distribution, marketing, public relations,
office organization, bookkeeping, and research. Depending on the semester an intern will ideally be given a specific project to follow
through on throughout the internship. Projects range and most likely involve assisting in the coordination and execution of events for the
Performance Ensemble or Residency Program. Each project will be adapted to an Intern’s specific interests and skills.
A Performance Ensemble Internship at JDPP entails working closely with Artistic Director Judy Dworin, Associate Artistic Director Kathy
Borteck Gersten, and the Judy Dworin Performance Ensemble on the creation, rehearsals and production of a dance theater piece. Company
rehearsals are generally Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Each Intern would experience the inner workings of creating and executing a
professional work by a collaborative performance group.
A Residency Program Internship at JDPP entails working with our Moving Matters! Residency Program. Each year, Moving Matters!
has residencies in Hartford area schools and at York Correctional Institution for women in Niantic, CT. Residency classes usually last 12
weeks and culminate in a performance piece. Each residency is based on a specific theme around which participants create the performance.
Interns would assist with planning, organization, actual classes, and executing the final performance.
